MATCH REPORT: EXMOUTH TOWN 0-3 LARKHALL ATHLETIC
It was a disappointing afternoon at the Circle of Care Community Stadium as Exmouth slumped to a 3-0 defeat against Larkhall Athletic in the Southern League Division One South.
Goals from Harley Prior, Harry Simons and Kye Simpson made the difference as the visitors cruised to a deserved victory.
It was a cagey opening to the game, as both sides struggled to thread through the final ball, with efforts from Kye Simpson and Aarron Denny failing to trouble either goalkeeper.
Unfortunately, it was a superb strike after 18 minutes that put Larkhall in front, as Harley Prior battled through an Exmouth challenge and smashed his 25-yard effort off the post and in, leaving Robbie Powell with no chance.
Despite the poor start, it was Exmouth who finished the first half strongest, as they looked to find an equaliser.
Ace High got a hold of the ball and struck powerfully but it was straight at Alfie Kelsey, who fumbled the ball but instantly recovered.
Town had multiple chances to open level the game up in the last five minutes of the half, starting with a Jordan Harris cross, which found an onrushing Ben Steer, but his header was straight at Kelsey.
Steer had the host’s best chance three minutes later, as he was played in on goal by Ace High, but he could not quite get a full connection on the ball and his shot rolled into the hands of Kelsey.
He would go on to set up the last chance of the half, as after some good battling, he laid off Karl Riddell, but his shot was over the bar.
Riddell’s second effort six minutes after the restart, was as good as it got for Town, although his effort was wide of the goal.
Two minutes later, Larkhall extended the lead, as some good work from Jordan Williams led to a cross which was met by Harry Simons who finished from close range.
After a period of not much happening, the next chance fell on the 73rd minute, which saw Kye Simpson go through on goal and finish into the bottom right corner.
Exmouth had two chances to grab a consolation, but High and Jordan Casey’s efforts were both saved by Alfie Kelsey.
LINE-UP: Powell, Haynes, Riddell (Casey, 61), Cullen, Rowe, Gardner (Walford, 65), Denny, Shipton (Lever, 81), High, Harris, Steer. Subs not used: Slater, Bissett.
