MATCH REPORT: EVESHAM UNITED 2-0 EXMOUTH TOWN
Two Jordan Lymn goals saw Exmouth Town defeated by Evesham United at a foggy Spiers & Hartwell Stadium in the Southern League One Division One South.
In freezing conditions, Town battled to try and get back into the game, but unfortunately, they struggled to break down a resolute Evesham side.
Exmouth almost took the lead after 30 seconds as Jordan Harris took advantage of an Evesham mistake and took aim at the goal, but a strong save from Edward Brearey prevented an early lead.
The hosts would make them pay just two minutes later, as they caught Town on the break, and Kyle Belmonte squared the ball over to Jordan Lymn, who finished from close range.
Town tried to get back into the game, as Aarron Denny won the ball back in the Evesham half, and laid off Jordan Harris, whose shot was saved by Brearey.
Lymn got his second goal, as he found himself unmarked in the box to get on the end of a Ethan Moran cross and headed past Chris Wright.
After the second goal, the game slowed down and this was how most of it played out, as the fog made things harder to see for everyone, and Evesham stayed solid at the back.
It wasn’t until the 56th minute that Town had another chance, as Ben Steer drove down the right wing and put a cross into Jordan Harris, but the home defence prevented the striker from getting on the end of it.
Ethan Moran tried to add a third for Evesham, as he created some space for himself outside the box, but his effort was straight at Wright.
Both sides struggled to create any chances in the last quarter, as the game became very stop-start with plenty of fouls given.
Town became frustrated with proceedings, picking up a few yellows for dissent but they couldn’t quite channel their annoyance into any worthwhile chances.
Chris Wright prevented a third on multiple occasions, as he denied both Kyle Belmonte, and Shaquille Leachman-Whittingham.
It was not to be for Exmouth, and they will have a welcome distraction from the league as they travel to Ladysmead on Wednesday evening (7:30pm KO), to take on Tiverton Town in the St Luke’s Devon Bowl.
