An Aarron Denny goal was not enough for Exmouth Town to secure all three points, as they drew 1-1 against promotion chasing Bashley, at the GlenMex Stadium.

It was an even Southern League Division One South affair, with both sides creating chances capable of winning a game, but it was not to be for either side, who will both have to settle for a point.

It was the hosts who started off the stronger, as Harry McGrath’s shot was blocked by Dave Rowe, who had to be alert to prevent another effort just a minute later.

Exmouth started to grow into the game after the first 15 minutes, with Ace High lobbing the ball forward, which was met from the edge of the 18-yard box by Jordan Harris, who headed into the arms of Ross Casey.

The Bashley goalkeeper was called into action once again, as Aarron Denny played Harris in on goal, and as he went one-on-one with Casey, the goalkeeper came out on top, getting down well to deny his shot.

Exmouth kept the pressure on, applying pressure to a Bashley side that were struggling to keep a hold of the ball, and they had another chance on goal, as Ben Steer cut inside from the left wing, but his shot was blocked into the path of High, whose half-volley was straight at Casey.

With 28 minutes gone, Town were on top, and possibly should have opened the scoring as Denny ran down the left flank and fired towards goal, and the ball deflected straight into the path of Harris, but the striker couldn’t quite adjust his feet to get a clean strike on goal, and Casey pounced on the loose ball.

The hosts had their best chance of the first half, as a corner was missed by Robbie Powell, and fell at the feet of Sam Jackson, but Dave Rowe was on the line to deny the Bash from going ahead.

Bashley came into the second half with a renewed energy, and passed the ball around the Town defence, leading to Jack Lovell getting a clear sight of goal, but the striker opted to pass rather than shoot, and Powell was quick to react to prevent any shot on goal.

It was a long ball that created the opening goal, as just moments after the hosts had a chance on goal, the ball was pumped long and flicked on by Harris, onto the onrushing Denny, who slotted past Casey to fire Town ahead after 52 minutes.

Exmouth could have had a second ten minutes later, as Bashley were once again caught asleep by a long ball, this time bouncing right onto the head of Harris, who beat Casey, but couldn’t beat the woodwork, and his effort on the rebound was saved by Casey.

Unfortunately for Exmouth, the hosts would find a leveller, as a long throw-in was headed out into the path of Frankie Monk, and his powerful effort flew into the top right corner, past a helpless Powell.

Bashley continued to apply pressure, but could not find a chance to take the lead, with Exmouth holding firm at the back.

It was Town who had the final opportunity of the game, with a Denny corner being met by the head of Mike Landricombe, but his header was just over the bar.

Exmouth are straight back into action, as they welcome Bideford to the Circle of Care Community Stadium this Monday.

LINE-UP: Powell, Casey (Cullen, 45), Walford, Slater, Rowe, Landricombe, Denny, Shipton, High, Harris, Steer.

Subs not used: Lever, Hill.
