MATCH REPORT: EXMOUTH TOWN 3-1 CULLOMPTON RANGERS

Exmouth Town booked their place into the next round of the Devon Bowl with a 3-1 win against Cullompton Rangers, at the Circle of Care Community Stadium.

Goals from Callum Shipton, Levi Landricombe and Ben Steer saw Town come out on top, despite a goal from Makan Coulibaly.

Coulibably had the first chance of the game for the visitors, as he fired a ball across goal which was dealt with by Josh Cann.

Town responded after ten minutes, with Shipton playing the ball to Landricombe, but the striker couldn’t stop his shot from being blocked.

It was a bitty first half, with the hosts’ much changed starting 11 taking time to adjust to each other.

Chris Wright was forced into a superb save after Lloyd White fired a powerful effort at goal from just inside the box.

With ten minutes of the first half to go, Town had an opportunity through Aarron Denny finding Landricombe, whose floated cross made it’s way to Ace High, but good defending from Ashley Billingham prevented a clear header on goal.

Town would take the lead moments later, as Shipton stole the ball from a Cullompton defender, before firing into the bottom left corner from outside the box.

After a slow start to the second 45, Exmouth had a chance to double their lead thanks to Ace High, as he was played in by Landricombe, but his shot could only find the side netting.

The hosts did get their second after 56 minutes, as Landricombe was chopped down in the box and was awarded a penalty, with the striker getting up and sending the goalkeeper the wrong way to increase Town’s lead.

Exmouth would wrap the game up as Ben Steer would score with his first few touches of the game, intercepting a loose ball and slotting past Will Davies.

Cullompton would get one back from the spot, as Karl Riddell’s late challenge was punished by the referee, and Coulibaly duly converted his penalty.

Wright was forced into one more save to prevent it getting tense at the end, but he was superbly level to Coulibaly’s effort.

Town are next in action this Saturday, as they travel to Plain Ham to take on Larkhall Athletic.
