Exmouth Town manager Kevin Hill was delighted to advance to the next round of the Devon Bowl, following Town’s 3-1 win against Cullompton Rangers, at the Circle of Care Community Stadium.

Goals from Callum Shipton, Levi Landricombe and Ben Steer saw Exmouth through a tough encounter, with a late penalty spoiling a clean sheet for the returning Chris Wright.

Speaking shortly after the game, Hill said:

“Delighted with any win, but that was tough, they gave us a good game.

In the last few weeks there has been a few shocks in the cup, and they way we’ve been playing this year, I was hoping we weren’t going to be one, we changed the side and I think they had a few missing as well, but at the end of the day, it’s about getting over the line.

It was a solid performance, especially with some of them that haven’t had that much game time, and I thought Mark Lever and Karl Riddell were outstanding.

You wanted a win, I watched Cullompton the other week and they knock it around quite well, so I knew the lads that haven’t been playing and coming off the bench, especially Sparky (Lever), and I thought he was excellent.

They all applied themselves well, Ben (Steer) coming on and getting the third. The only thing was that when we went 3-0 up, they were the better side for the last 20 minutes, but that comes from complacency and that’s what I don’t want.

If we can cut these silly little mistakes out, that have been creeping in with us, like our discipline, we were 3-0 up and everyone is trying to bomb forward and score a goal, then they go forward and catch us on the break and get the penalty.

It was good for him (Levi Landricombe) to score a goal, especially a penalty, and get a full 90, same with Josh Cann getting another 90, and I’m delighted we are into the next round.”

Town are back in action tomorrow afternoon, as they travel to Plain Ham to take on Larkhall Athletic in the Southern League Division One South.
