A good first half display earned Exmouth Town a 2-2 draw against Mousehole at the Circle of Care Community Stadium.

Nelson Iseguan and Aarron Denny had Town two up at the break, but a poor second half allowed Mousehole to level the game, with goals from Maxwell Hill and Hayden Turner meant both sides leave with a point apiece.

It was another superb start for Town, as Ethan Slater picked out Iseguan with a perfect pass, and the winger burst through on goal before slotting it under Oliver Chenoworth.

Mousehole looked to bounce back straight away, but Chris Wright made a strong stop to deny an instant equaliser.

Exmouth were feeling confident, and played some good football around the visiting box, having a chance after Denny laid the ball off to Iseguan, who shot straight at the goalkeeper.

A player that gave Town plenty of problems earlier in the season, in Evander Grubb who had his first chance of the game, after being played in behind, but Wright parried into the path of Ace High, who cleared.

With both sides struggling to create chances, Town were the better of the two teams and threatened often through Iseguan down the left side, although Mousehole were able to cut things out before Exmouth could get a shot off.

The hosts were able to extend their lead moments before the break, as a corner bounced into the path of Denny, who shot, but while his shot was on target, a deflection took it past Chenoworth, doubling the lead.

Mousehole came out in the second half raring to go, and pulled one back almost instantly, as Hill poked home following a goalmouth scramble.

They should have levelled seven minutes into the half, as they caught Town on the break, but Turner could not find any takers for his pass across goal.

Turner would have another effort on goal, getting himself in way too much space, however his shot floated over the bar.

After the hard-work of Saturday, Town bodies were beginning to tire and they sunk deeper and deeper into their own half, allowing a possession-hungry Mousehole to dominate the remaining 20 minutes.

Tom Gardner made a huge block to prevent Grubb from getting a shot on target, and that allowed Exmouth to have a rare foray forward as Steer tried to go through on goal, but Mousehole were able to crowd him out.

Exmouth’s best chance to get a third came with 14 minutes to go, as some excellent play from Mike Landricombe allowed him to play in Ben Steer, who laid it back to Callum Shipton, and his shot was wide of the mark.

The visitors would punish Town for that, as Steer would lose the ball, giving Turner space to work, and after having his first shot saved by Wright, the hosts failed to clear their lines, allowing Turner a second chance, which he happily took.

Mousehole pushed for a winner, but Town were able to hold firm to make it four points in two games, which leaves them just three points behind 18th placed Yate.

Exmouth are back in action this Saturday, as they take on Bideford, hoping to build on a solid festive period.
