Exmouth Town earned an impressive 3-0 win against Southern League Premier side Poole Town, in their penultimate pre-season game.

A Mike Landricombe thunderbolt, followed by a brace from Aarron Denny saw Town score their biggest victory of the campaign so far, and continue the momentum heading into the new season.

The hosts started on the front foot, and could have made it 1-0 early on as the ball was drilled across goal into Bath, but his shot was saved by the trialist goalkeeper.

Poole had their first chance after ten minutes, as they latched onto a poor backpass to go through on goal, but Robbie Powell was on hand to deny them.

Town were pressing well, and giving the visitors problems, as Bath was able to win the ball in the Poole half, and forced a clever save.

It was largely a midfield battle throughout the first 45, with both sides struggling to display an awful lot of attacking quality.

The visitors would have the last chance of the half, with some incisive play, but the shot was wide of the mark.

Frankie Phillips replaced Powell at half time, and was forced into action ten minutes into the second 45, as some slack defending saw Toby Holmes burst through, with the young goalkeeper forced to make a save.

It should have been 1-0 to the visitors, as a well worked move saw the attack beat the offside trap, but Tyler Forbes dragged his effort wide from close range.

Town would punish Steve Tully’s side for not taking their chances, as Mike Landricombe took aim from outside the box, leaving the goalkeeper no chance to save it.

Isaac McCue looked another bright spark in the Exmouth attack, as he teed up Nelson Iseguan, who found a sweet connection with the volley, although it was blocked.

The young attacker continued to cause problems, and hit the post after curling an effort towards goal.

Town would get the goal they deserved with 16 minutes to go, as Denny curled an effort towards goal, and a Poole Town defender helped it past the goalkeeper.

Three minutes later, Denny would get a more definitive goal, as another curling effort beat the goalkeeper and found the back of the net.

It was an impressive display from Exmouth, who matched Poole in the first 60 minutes, before showing some extra quality to come away with a convincing victory.

Town have their final pre-season game this Wednesday, as they travel to Budleigh.
