Exmouth Town earned their way into the second qualifying round of the FA Trophy, with a 4-1 win against Kidlington, at the Complete Infrastructure Stadium.

After going behind early, a brace each for Ben Griffith and Tom Bath saw Town coast to victory on a wet day in Devon.

Kidlington came out of the blocks fast, and caught the Exmouth defence napping as Abe Davies-Small picked out the run of Fraser Allen, who was allowed in on goal with ease and he finished past Phillips.

It would take Town seven minutes to respond, as Bath would work hard to keep a hold of the ball, and pick out the run of Griffith, who slotted in off the post.

Griffith and Bath linked up again for the hosts’ next chance, with a cross from the former finding the latter, but his looping header came off the post before bouncing out.

Exmouth’s press was putting Kidlington under a lot of pressure, and the Greens were struggling to get the ball out from the back.

This would prove successful for Town as Aarron Denny chased a loose ball and won the ball from Thomas Carter, allowing Griffith to strike the ball into the empty net.

Louis Morison tested Carter from 35 yards out as he let a fierce drive rip, but the young goalkeeper was equal to it.

Bath was looking to get on the scoresheet himself, as he looked to catch Carter off his line, but his lob was far wide.

The striker almost made it three as he would put a header towards goal, which was met by Conor Taylor on the line and subsequently cleared.

Bath would get his wish, after he was brought down by Ben Richards in the box, and he stepped up to take the penalty, which despite slipping while taking, he found the back of the net.

Just moments later, Bath would put a contender in for the goal of the season competition, as he flicked the ball over an onrushing Carter and diverted it into the back of the net from 25 yards out.

Kidlington would try to break down a stubborn Exmouth defence, but lacked the quality required in the final third to create anything of note.

Town will find out their opponents for the next round this week, and that fixture will take place on the 21st of September.

Before that, they will welcome league leaders Yate Town to the Complete Infrastructure Stadium next Saturday.
