MATCH REPORT: EXMOUTH TOWN 2-0 CRIBBS FC
Two Louis Morison goals gave Town a deserved 2-0 victory against Cribbs at the Complete Infrastructure Stadium.
Exmouth had the better of play, but it was set pieces that made difference, as the hosts punished the visitors from corners.
Cribbs set their stall out early, looking to frustrate Town in a position that they often struggle to create chances in.
This proved true for the first 15 minutes of the game, with Exmouth having the majority of the ball, but not doing anything to trouble Kyreese Johnson.
It was a string of corners that saw Town mount their first few chances of the game, with a low Joe Belsten corner almost being diverted in by Morison, but the weak effort was blocked.
It was the centre-back who almost struck moments later, as Tom Bath headed down a Belsten corner to Morison, and his shot was blocked by a line of Cribbs defenders.
Once again set pieces, more specifically corners proved to be the hosts’ best weapon, as another cross was diverted out to Ollie Knowles, but his effort was deflected wide.
Exmouth struggled to get many chances going in open play, with a Ben Griffith snapshot being the best it got for around 20 minutes.
Aarron Denny created the best chance of the half, as he picked up the ball on the edge of the box and dribbled past two Cribbs defenders, before firing over.
The away side started the second half on the front foot, with George Kellow breaking past the Town defence, and forcing Frankie Phillips to make not one but two saves.
Exmouth would bounce back in the best way, as a Belsten corner found Morison in the box, and he struck the ball past Johnson.
Town almost made it two in two minutes from corners, as Callum Shipton headed wide from another set piece.
Cribbs were forced to come forward in search for an equaliser, with Thomas Symons being allowed plenty of space to come forward down the left hand side, but luckily for Phillips, Aaron Ward-Baptiste’s header was straight at him.
The away side were piling on the pressure, with Kyreese Morrison being the next player to go close, as his shot deflected wide.
However, Town would give themselves some much needed breathing space as another corner swung the way of Morison, who headed home to get his and Exmouth’s second of the game.
The game fizzled out after that, with the home side comfortable in their three points and the visitors resigned to the result.
It was another solid win and clean sheet for Town, who will aim to take their form to Bickland Park, when they take on Falmouth this Saturday.
