Exmouth Town were beaten 2-1 by Falmouth Town, as they were denied a point following a late disallowed goal from Tom Bath.

It was two Oscar Massey goals that made the difference, on either side of a Callum Shipton strike.

A ten-man Falmouth side, who had Harrison Jewell dismissed after an our, battled to a deserved victory, although Town will feel hard done by after the late offside incident.

Exmouth started with the first half chance of the game, as a Ben Griffith cross almost found Bath, who couldn’t quite connect with the ball.

The game was predominatly played in the midfield, and it was the hosts who had the better of it, as Mike Landricombe was forced to make a goalsaving challenge to deny Luke Braybn a clear chance on goal.

There were plenty of throw-ins and free kicks given away, as the match lacked that quality in the final third.

With ten minutes to go until half time, Bradley Leivers had a fantastic chance to open the scoring, as he turned two Town players in the box, but fired straight at Frankie Phillips.

Exmouth went straight up the other end, and had a massive chance of their own, as David Thorne found Bath with a deep cross into the box, but the striker headed wide from close range.

Falmouth had another great opportunity to score moments before the break, as Jared Sims found himself in plenty of space in the Town box, but Phillips did really well to cover the angle and make the stop.

Five minutes into the second half, the hosts would open the scoring, as Massey would burst past the Town defence and calmly slot past the Town goalkeeper.

Falmouth would put the pressure on straight afterwards, Andreas Calleja-Stayne and Cameron Hutchinson having shots off target.

Exmouth would get a fantastic opportunity as Harrison Jewell was dismissed following a collision with Bath, and the initiative was once again on Town to push for the equaliser.

They would oblige, as a cross fell to Shipton who was unmarked in the box, and he curled the ball into the back of the net to level things up.

Unfortunately, Town could not capitalise on the leveller, and Massey used his pace to get past the Town defence, and was met with a Landricombe challenge deemed to be a foul.

The striker would take the chance to get his second of the game, by smashing his penalty into the roof of the net.

Exmouth would hunt for an equaliser, with Griffith putting a header wide, but Town were not able to create a whole lot going forward.

It looked like Town’s below-par display would be rescued, as Bath got on the end of a Shipton flick before diverting the ball past Morgan Coxhead.

With the ball on the centre-spot, Falmouth protested the decision and the referee deemed Bath to have been offisde, and it was back 2-1 to the hosts.

Town can be disappointed with both the performance and the fact they have not come away with a point, but they will have the week to recover ahead of their game with Larkhall Athletic on the 12th of September, at the Complete Infrastructure Stadium.
