MATCH REPORT: EXMOUTH TOWN 0-0 EVESHAM UNITED
Exmouth Town earned a point at the Complete Infrastructure Stadium, after a competitive game in tricky conditions led to a hard-fought 0-0 draw against Evesham United.
In a game that lacked quality, perhaps due to the tough winds, Town will have goalkeeper Frankie Phillips to thank, as his late save denied a winner for the visitors.
Exmouth started off the better side, with Tom Bath having a header on goal after two minutes, although it was no problem for Alexander Harris.
Callum Shipton would be next to have an attempt on goal, albeit from much further away, as his long-range effort went wide.
Evesham started to build themselves into the game, with Phillips making his stop after the hosts struggled to clear the ball.
The conditions meant that chances for either team were few and far between, with some nice link-play between the Town front three being the best it got for the next 15 minutes.
Mike Landricombe had to be switched on to stop an Aaron Heap cross from finding an Evesham man, but neither defence were truly tested in the first half.
That was until the last five minutes, where Ben Steer, making his return for Town after signing in the week, cut inside his man and fired a shot straight at Harris.
Amer Awadh would have the visitors best opportunity of the half, as the ball fell to him on the edge of the box, but his strike was blocked by the body of Karl Riddell.
The visitors would continue that momentum in the second, as Heap was picked out in the box, before turning and firing towards goal, with the shot flying wide.
Exmouth would have to wait until the hour mark to register their first effort of the half, with Landricombe teeing up Ben Griffith, and despite his shot going through a crowd of bodies, it was followed all the way by Harris.
The Evesham goalkeeper would be called upon again as a brilliant Ollie Knowles free-kick, which looked destined for the back of the net, was well saved by the visiting shot stopper.
That would be the best it got for Exmouth, and it would be the visitors turn to apply pressure on their opposition, starting with substitute Alfie Dunn, who pounced on a loose ball but saw his shot saved by Phillips.
Not to be outdone by Harris’ earlier save, the Exeter City loanee made a pivotal save moments before the 90th minute, as he parried away a powerful diving header from Andre Wright.
Wright would have another attempt on goal in stoppage time, but a more tame effort was no issue for the young goalkeeper.
Exmouth can take the point and move on to Boxing Day, where they make the long trip over to Helston Athletic.
