Exmouth Town make the journey to Cornwall on Boxing Day, as they take on Helston Athletic at Kellaway Park (KO 1:30pm), in the Southern League Division One South.

Following a 0-0 draw against Evesham on Saturday, Town remain second in the league, and will be boosted by the arrival of Theo Cutler, who joins from Exeter City on a short-term loan deal.

THE OPPOSITION

Having been promoted from the Western League last season, Helston have enjoyed a good start to life in the Southern League, although they have fell down to tenth, after a start that saw them in the play-off places.

With no wins in their last five, the Blues will be looking to improve on that form with a big win on Thursday, and build on some good draws against Thatcham and Bashley.

Speaking after the Bishop’s Cleeve game, joint-manager Kevin Hill said: “It’ll be a physical battle depending on the conditions, I hope it’s alright.

They’ve come up and been a bit like us in our first year, when you come up you get a bit excited and you have momentum. 

They lost at Yate so they will want to bounce back, but for us, if we can go down there and get a result then that will extend the gap massively from the teams around us.

We’ve played Evesham, Bishops Cleeve away, Helston are up there, Bideford is always a tough game and then we have Melksham, so as long as we can keep bodies fit, and I tend to think we are a little bit better away from home.

We’ve won at Bishops Cleeve, Thatcham, Bashley, tough places where we have dug in and fought, so hopefully it will be a good result on Thursday.”
