Exmouth Town earned their second consecutive away win, as they beat Helston 2-1 at Kellaway Park, as they stay second in the Southern League Division One South.

In a game of few chances, Ben Steer and an own goal gave Town the victory, with Jordan Copp scoring for the hosts, who went down to ten men after Aaron Bentley was shown a second yellow card in the second half.

Exmouth had the first chance of the game, with a cross finding the head of Tom Bath, who diverted his header over the bar.

Kyle Moore would be forced into a save as Town continued a strong start, with Ben Griffith taking aim from the edge of the box, and the goalkeeper got an important touch to send it around the post.

Not to be outdone, Frankie Phillips stepped up to make a big save as Copp picked out Jack Crago with a superb pass, but his first time shot was denied by the Exeter City loanee.

Town would take the lead after 21 minutes, with an Ollie Knowles cross being diverted across goal by Tyler Elliot, who unintentionally set up an unmarked Ben Steer, who tapped in from close range.

With the game taking place in foggy and wet conditions, it struggled to get going for large parts of it, as both teams struggled to show a whole lot of quality.

The home side threatened on occasion, and kept the ball better than their opponents, however the final ball was often found lacking.

Copp would give Phillips a test before half time, as after his first shot was blocked, the midfielder fired a low effort towards goal which forced an important stop from the goalkeeper.

Unfortunately for Town, the former Plymouth Parkway man would get the equaliser in unlikely circumstances, as his dangerous free kick beat everybody in the box and found it’s way into the back of the net.

The second half started in a similar way to the first, with neither side able to cause many issues for Moore or Phillips, with most moves being cut out by the respective defences.

Both sides made changes, looking for a way to change the momentum of the game, with new signing Theo Cutler getting his first minutes in an Exmouth shirt.

The match would swing in the visitors way when Steer broke forward, only to be brought down by Bentley, who received his second yellow of the game, and subsequently a red.

Town took that chance and four minutes later, got themselves in front, as a scramble from a corner saw the ball get pushed towards the line by Ace High, who on his 400th appearance for the club, watched Greg Eastham fire the ball against the back of Moore, and secure Exmouth the three points.

Helston would try to push forward for an equaliser, but the stoppage time minutes were excellently managed by Town, who pressed well from the front to ensure the ball stayed in the home side’s half.

There is no rest for Exmouth, who welcome Bideford to the Complete Infrastructure Stadium on Saturday, in what is sure to be a exciting Devon Derby.
