Exmouth Town earned a hard-fought point at the Spiers & Hartwell Stadium, as they drew 0-0 with Southern League Division One South title chasers, Evesham United.

Both teams had chances to win the game, but a draw was the fair result in a competitive fixture.

Evesham, who were unbeaten in seven games, started with that momentum on full display, putting Town under pressure from the opening whistle.

Andre Wright had the first shot, after Levi Steele had got the better of Mike Landricombe, but his shot was blocked.

The forward would get another opportunity, after a great defensive header from Belsten led to a corner, and the scramble that ensued from the set-piece saw Wright get an effort off, which was straight at Frankie Phillips.

Jordy Ngathe would put a good ball into the box for Wright, but he could not divert his header on target.

Exmouth would have their first chance after 16 minutes, as some nice link-up play between Aarron Denny, Luke Steer and Tom Bath saw the latter have a shot blocked by a host of Evesham defenders.

Town would have a penalty shout when Denny played Steer through, and after Evesham had recovered, a blocked shot launched protest from the visiting players.

Bath would have a chance from the following corner, although his header could only find the side netting.

Phillips would be called into action when a blocked free-kick came back to Wright, and his low volley was well-saved by the Exeter City loanee.

Exmouth would do everything but score from a corner, as a goalmouth scramble saw Landricombe, Steer and Bath have efforts from close range, which were either blocked or saved by a resilient Robins defence.

Evesham would have the last chance of the half, as Ngathe picked out an unmarked Amer Awadh in the box, and his volley was tipped over the bar by Phillips.

Exmouth would come out of the blocks flying in the second half, as Jack Thorne would see a shot blocked.

That was followed up with an Ollie Knowles free-kick hitting the wall, and the ball eventually ending up with Denny, but his shot was wide.

The game would slow down and peter out as the second half went on, with both defences running the show.

Substitute Alfie Dunn would see the ball into his path after a block from stand-in centre half Ollie Knowles, and his shot would end up directly at Phillips.

Exmouth would have one more attempt to push for a winner, with Tor Swann firing towards goal but it was no test for Alex Harris.

It is a good point for Town on the road, and all roads now lead to a big game against Bemerton Heath Harlequins at the Complete Infrastructure Stadium, this Wednesday.
