MATCH REPORT: LARKHALL AFC 0-4 EXMOUTH TOWN

Exmouth Town booked their place in the Southern League Division One South play-offs, as they beat Larkhall 4-0 at Plain Ham.

Goals from Ben Steer, Aarron Denny and a brace for Ben Griffiths, alongside a Melksham win at Mousehole means that Town will travel to Evesham on Wednesday evening for their semi-final.

It was the hosts who started the better of the two sides, with Calum Chalmers missing a gilt-edged chance from close range which Frankie Phillips pounced on.

Max Williams was next to have a go for Town, as he took aim from 30-yards-out and struck the post.

Jack Thorne was the first to strike on target for Exmouth, as he cut inside on the edge of the box and forced Dylan John into a good save.

Long shots were proving to be a weapon for Larkhall, as Chalmers looked to have Phillips beaten, but the crossbar saved Town once again.

Completely against the run of play, a long Phillips ball was headed on by Ace High, and flicked on by Thorne to Steer, and he slotted the ball past John to open the scoring.

It should have been 1-1 as Williams found himself open in the box from six yards out, but did not know too much about the ball coming towards him and was unable to divert it home.

Despite being the second best side in the first half, Town would go in two to the good as Steer was brought down in the box, with Griffith smashing the penalty into the top right corner.

Determined not to start the second half in the same way, Exmouth flew out of the starting blocks and almost made it three, with Thorne and Tor Swann forcing John into two decent stops.

Moments later, Town would put further space behind them and Larkhall, as Swann squared the ball to Griffiths and he got his second goal of the game, firing past the goalkeeper.

Exmouth got themselves further in front when a goalmouth scramble led the ball to Denny, who scrambled the ball past the Larkhall defender on the line.

The Larks were not looking to end the season quietly, with Lewis Graham forcing Phillips into a great save from a clean volley.

With all attention on the game at Melksham, Town almost made it five through both Thorne and Tom Bath, but they were unable to test John.

Melksham drawing 2-2 with Mousehole meant that Exmouth have gone from the Great Escape to the Southern League Division One South play-offs, with a trip to the Spiers & Hartwell Stadium to take on Evesham on Wednesday evening.

LINE-UP: Phillips, Belsten, Knowles, Morison, L.Steer, Swann (Shipton, 74), Griffith, Denny, Thorne (McCue, 74), B.Steer (Cann, 60), High (Bath, 74).
