Exmouth Town enter the Southern League Division One South play-offs for the first time on Wednesday, as they travel to the Spiers & Hartwell Stadium to take on second placed Evesham United (7:30pm KO).

Town secured their place in the top five of the league on the final day, beating Larkhall 4-0 while Mousehole dropped points to Melksham, while Evesham missed on the title, as Yate winning ensured they were crowned champions.

THE OPPOSITION

It has been a great season for Evesham, who came up just short of winning the league, pushing Yate all the way to the final day of the season.

Two consecutive defeats means that Mike Ford’s side must snap the short streak of losses, as they were beaten 1-0 by fellow play-off competitor Bishops Cleeve, and lost 2-1 at home to Bashley.

Both games between Town and Evesham have been very close, with little between the two sides, with the home and away fixtures both ending 0-0.

PRE-MATCH CHAT

Speaking after the Larkhall game, joint-manager Kevin Hill said: “They’ll be massive favourites, finishing in second, and deservedly so, they finished their for a reason.

We’ll go there the underdogs, which suits us, and it depends on who shows up, if they don’t show or we don’t show up, that’ll decide it.

For both clubs, it’s about getting play-offs, we could have been in the same situation as them, on our day we can show up and be excellent, but also if we replicate that first 30 minutes, we’ll be in trouble.

It’s a cup final, we have to not look ahead, just focus on the one game.”
