A superb second half performance saw Exmouth Town romp to a 4-0 win against Stoke City at the Complete Infrastructure Stadium.

After an competitive first half, goals from Ed Butcher and Ethan Slater, alongside a brace from Ben Griffith helped Town on their way to their first win of the 25/26 pre-season.

It was the hosts who had the first chance of the game, as Isaac McCue closed the away goalkeeper down, with the ball going out to Callum Shipton, who put too much power behind his lob attempt.

Mike Landricombe was called into action to make an important block from a Stoke attacker, with a visiting defender making a similar interception from Steer five minutes later.

Steer was causing problems for the Potters young defence, having a shot straight at the keeper, but there was not much too separate the two sides going into the break.

With 56 minutes gone, it was the hosts who opened the scoring, as a long ball from Aaron Dearing found the run of Butcher, and his first time finish flew past the Stoke goalkeeper.

Butcher almost had a second soon after, as he linked up brilliantly with Griffith, before having his shot strike the inside of the post, and agonisingly roll across the goal-line.

Town would find the second they deserved, as Griffith won the ball in the opponents half, and forced a good save from the Stoke stopper, with Slater on hand to score from close range.

Exmouth would get the chance to make it three from the spot, as Ryan Keates was brought down in the box, and Griffith got the goal he deserved when he sent the goalkeeper the wrong way.

Not wanting to settle with the one goal, Griffith, who was excellent throughout, linked up with Steer before slotting the ball into the back of the net from close range.

It was an excellent second half performance from Town, who will look to take that confidence into Tuesday night, as they play their first away friendly at Cullompton (7:45pm KO).
