Match Report: Tavistock 1-2 Exmouth Town
Exmouth Town made it five Southern League Division One South wins in a row as they beat Tavistock 2-1 at Langsford Park.
Goals from Ben Griffith and Ben Steer saw Town earn a hard-fought three points, as a Jack Crago strike halved the deficit.
Exmouth made the stronger start to the game, as a Sam Morcom cross was pinpoint to the head of Mike Landricombe, who struck the crossbar.
Town would continue to apply pressure to the hosts, and would win themselves a penalty as Steer was brought down in the box by a home defender.
Griffith would dispatch his penalty past Dan Holman to put the visitors in front.
Callum Shipton would have an effort from range, but it was always going over.
Steer would look to get a goal against his former side, capitalising on a mistake at the back, but his effort was well saved by Holman.
Towards the end of the half, Tavistock began to grow into the game, and should have been level through Bradley Williams, who was denied by the feet of Chris Wright.
The hosts were desperately unlucky to not equalise after the break, as Fowles got in-between Wright and Landricombe, before slotting his shot through the goalkeeper’s legs, but it hit the inside of the post before being cleared away by Morcom.
The midfielder had another massive opportunity moments later, as he got on the end of a Jacob Bowker cross, but he failed to divert his header on target.
Against the run of play, Town struck on the break, as Steer took advantage of a defensive error, before firing low past Holman.
The hosts would deservedly get back into the game, as a Bowker free-kick was perfect for Crago, who headed home to cut Town’s lead.
This would inspire an onslaught from the Lambs, with both Landricombe and Ollie Knowles making vital interceptions to deny strikers from getting shots on goal.
Tavistock were throwing everything forward, but lacked quality with their final ball, which allowed Town to get away with a slightly below-par performance.
Exmouth will look to extend their unbeaten run back at the Complete Infrastructure Stadium on Saturday, as they host Westbury United.
