Match Report: Exmouth Town 2-1 Larkhall AFC
Two headers from Matt Wright saw Exmouth Town beat Larkhall AFC 2-1 at the Complete Infrastructure Stadium.
A late Dawid Regula penalty halved the deficit for the Larks, in a close encounter between two in-form Southern League Division One South sides.
Neither team flew out from the blocks, with the windy conditions affecting play at both ends.
It was Ben Steer who had the first attempt, as he linked up with Wright before firing his effort straight at Liam Armstrong.
In a half of few chances, the visitors had a big one after 20 minutes, as Regula received the ball in the box and with no one around him, forced Chris Wright into a vital stop.
Alex Camm and Ben Griffith would both have long-range efforts go over, but the first half ended with little quality on display.
After his goal against Hartpury, Ollie Knowles attempted to replicate his free-kick heroics, but his low effort was spilt by Armstrong, although the Larks defence would crowd out Griffith’s follow-up.
Wright would be called into action, as he denied a floating cross from finding the back of the net.
Town would create their first good chance of the game with 69 minutes played, as a Joe Belsten cross was perfect for Wright at the near-post, and he duly headed home.
The momentum was with the hosts, and a nice passing move saw Luke Steer given an opportunity from inside the box, which went over.
A Knowles delivery would see Town extend their lead, as he picked out Wright, who headed past Armstrong, to give Exmouth that all-important breathing room.
Larkhall would get a goal back, as Regula powered his penalty down the middle, but it was too late for any comeback to be complete.
Town’s winning ways can continue on Wednesday, as they host Willand Rovers at the Complete Infrastructure Stadium (7:45pm KO).
