Exmouth Town came back from behind twice to draw 2-2 against local rivals Willand Rovers, at the Complete Infrastructure Stadium.

Goals from Harvey Dorothy and Ashton Hewitt were cancelled out by a Ben Griffith brace, and despite chances for both teams, neither were able to find the winner.

The visitors almost got off to a superb start, as Dorothy fired the ball wide in under 60 seconds of kick off.

Rovers would continue to have the better of the play, but Town were holding firm, without generating much threat on the break.

Former Exmouth striker Tom Bath almost haunted his old team, but his effort from the edge of the box was comfortable for Chris Wright.

Ben Steer would have his first attempt of the game as the Town midfield quickly won the ball back, but the winger’s strike was deflected wide.

It would be the away side who took the lead, as some sustained pressure saw the hosts struggle to clear, with Dorothy firing into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

Exmouth would have a superb chance to level it almost instantly, but Ben Steer was denied at point-blank range by Adam Seedhouse-Evans.

Town would come out of half time the better side, and they would level the game through substitute Griffith, as his deflected effort beat the Rovers goalkeeper.

Willand responded immediately, and were back in front just a minute later, as a superb Hewitt strike left Wright with no chance.

Ross Edwards rose highest to meet an Ollie Knowles cross, but he was unable to direct his header on target.

Town would continue to press for an equaliser, with Steer getting in behind before squaring to Matt Wright, but the striker got his shot all wrong.

Exmouth would get a glorious chance to level the game, as a long ball met the hand of Josh Searle, and the referee duly pointed to the spot.

Griffith made no mistake as he fired his penalty into the top right corner.

Both sides went looking for the winning goal, with the visitors best attempt coming from Fin Herbert, as he got past Mike Landricombe, but his curling effort was just past the post.

A superb save from Seedhouse-Evans would stop Edwards winning it against his former club, as his strike was tipped over the bar, and the visitors would clear the following corner.

It was a fair point in the end for both teams, and Town will look to keep their unbeaten run going, as they head to Bashley on Saturday.
