Match Report: Bashley 1-1 Exmouth Town
A second half Matt Wright header saw Exmouth Town draw 1-1 with Bashley at the Veho Community Stadium, in the Southern League Division One South.
Leighton Thomas had opened the scoring from the penalty spot, but the striker’s late strike saw Town leave with a deserved point.
Exmouth almost got off to a superb start, as Wright intercepted a Lloyd Thomas pass, but could not get his shot on target.
The rain was pouring in Hampshire, and that saw the quality naturally lowered, with the hosts having the better of things.
Bashley would have a string of shots blocked by the Town defence, with Jacob Shore and Ethan Slater both getting their bodies in the way.
Thomas would come close to getting the first goal, as a corner was headed across goal by Isaac McCue, but the striker failed to get a touch to divert it in.
Neither side had much quality from open play, and that saw the half end in a stalemate.
Slater would register a shot for Town, although his sliced effort floated over the bar.
The hosts struggled to create in open play, but Chris Wright was needed to catch a threatening cross from Harvey-Joe Bertrand.
Bashley would get a glorious chance to go ahead, as Knowles was adjudged to bring down Bertrand in the box, and Thomas stepped up to coolly slot the ball past Wright.
Town would recover, and level things up with nine minutes to go, as a Josh Cann corner was met by Wright at the near post, and his header flew into the top left corner.
Both teams would hunt for a winner, but neither team was able to create a defining chance on goal, and it would end all-square.
Exmouth are back at home next Saturday, as they host Sporting Club Inkberrow at the Complete Infrastructure Stadium.
