Town were left frustrated as Bashley ended their Southern League South Division one losing streak with a well fought 1-0 victory thanks to a headed goal from Jack Lovell.

Bashley edged the first twenty minutes though the early portion of the game provided little for either side to shout about. James Togshill was lively for the opposition from the left-wing position though Town keeper Aaron Dearing was not forced into much strenuous action.

It was not until the 30th minute that Exmouth would truly come to life. Arron Denny was fouled in the box resulting in a penalty. Wing back Joe Belsten stepped up though was expertly denied by Bash keeper Oscar Glover.

The second half started like the first, with little significant action at either end. Ross Edwards, Ben Steer and half-time substitute Ethan Slater all had half-opportunities, though to no avail.

Togshill remained the most likely candidate to break the deadlock for the visitors, as the pacy winger frequently put the Town defence under pressure.

Bashley would eventually break the deadlock on the 63rd minute. An excellently delivered free kick from the energetic Togshill was met by Bash number nine Jack Lovell, who headed beyond Dearing.

Town then piled on the pressure in the final twenty minutes.

Matt Wright had the ball in the net but was ruled offside in the 76th and substitute Tom Bath’s acrobatic effort ended up high and wide in the 80th. Wright would continue to go close though could not find the net.

His sweetly struck volley in the 83rd went comfortably over the bar and he would see his final meaningful attempt cleared off the line in the 87th.

It therefore ended frustratingly for Town as they failed to break down a resolute Bash backline and with Denny also joining Knowles and Morcom in the book late on.

The game would run just beyond 100 minutes as Bashley’s Finley Richardson was treated on the field due to a head injury though he very fortunately exited the pitch on his feet.

Town will look to return to winning ways on Tuesday as they head to Brixham for a re-arranged fixture.

Line-Up: Dearing, Morcom, Cann, Knowles (45’), Edwards, Landricombe, Denny, Shipton (69’), Belsten (74’), Steer (69’), Wright.

Subs: Bath (21’), Griffith (21’), Slater (45’), Shore (16’), Cunningham
