Match Report: Brixham AFC 0-2 Exmouth Town
Exmouth Town hit The Fishermen’s net twice without response, with headed goals from Ross Edwards and Matt Wright helping the visitors to a 2-0 win against Brixham, at Wall Park.
The home side started the livelier with half chances for James Moxon and Aaron Wellington, though Aaron Dearing was not forced into meaningful action.
Town then settled into the game after around 20 minutes but could not convert. Ollie Knowles recorded multiple attempts both on and off target, Ben Griffith saw his attempt go well wide, and Tom Bath’s headed effort was comfortable for keeper Dan Gillard.
Shortly before half time the game opened with further chances for the home side through Wellington and for Town through Knowles. Matt Wright would also face down Gillard though, much to his frustration, was deemed offside and the teams would go in level.
Exmouth came out the stronger of the two sides for the second 45. Matt Wright’s headed effort the first of many chances Town would create in the second half.
The turning point in the game came in the 65th minute as Brixham full back Sam Gleeson was sent off for a second bookable offence.
The resulting free kick was expertly delivered by Sam Morcom to the head of Wright who skilfully flicked on to the head of Edwards to finish off a suave Town move.
Town would then take-charge and score again within the next 10 minutes. Once again, it was Morcom with a pinpoint delivery, this time from a corner, which was powerfully met by the head of Wright to double the lead.
Further chances for Wright and Bath would go begging, but in hindsight would not matter. Brixham did rattle the bar late on, but Town recorded a clean sheet for the first time since January.
Cameo appearances for the returning duo of Ace High and Louis Morison would cap off an excellent night for Town.
It is to Sporting Club Inkberrow that Town travel too next, for a 3pm kick off this Saturday.
