Match Report: Liskeard Athletic 4-1 Exmouth Town
Exmouth Town suffered a tough defeat at the hands of Liskeard Athletic, as they were beaten 4-1 at Lux Park.
It was difficult afternoon for Town, who had a bare bones squad for the game, as an early Tom Bath goal was quickly counted out.
As Exmouth legs began to tire, the hosts took control, and capitalised on some errors from the visitors to secure their win.
It was a great start for Town, as some great work from Callum Shipton saw him fake a shot, and play in Bath, who curled his shot past the goalkeeper.
The hosts responded quickly, as a long ball over the top caught Exmouth out, and a superb half-volley found the back of the net.
Matt Wonnacott was forced into action after the ball was given away in midfield, turning away a powerful effort.
Town were unlucky not to get a spot-kick as Alex Kraus was taken out in the box, as the ball fell to Bath, who fired at the goalkeeper.
Liskeard would have two good chances before the break, as they headed over from close range, and then Wonnacott made a good stop to keep it level.
Unfortunately for the goalkeeper, his pass was intercepted by a Liskeard player, and the ball was rolled in.
Wonnacott would recover well, making a brilliant save to deny a quick third goal.
The nature of Town’s squad meant that Kevin Hill had to come on as a substitute, but he was unable to prevent a third goal, as the number 11 headed home from inside the box.
Wonnacott would be forced into another brilliant stop, as he denied a shot from point blank range.
Town would concede a fourth later on, as the number 11 would get a second, firing the ball into the bottom corner.
It was a tough afternoon in hot conditions, but they’ll look to take plenty of lessons into next Tuesday’s game against National League South side Truro City at Southern Road.
Squad List: Wonnacott, Harris, Cann, Knowles, Croft, Landricombe, Cunningham, Shipton, Kraus, Bath, Wright, Hill, Ellis.
