Exmouth Town were beaten 3-1 by Thame United, in the second qualifying round of the FA Cup, at the Search4Local Stadium.

Matt Wright gave Town the lead, and after a strong first half, the hosts were pegged back in stoppage time by a Curtis Brown goal.

Harry Alexander’s strike would put the Red Kites ahead, before Greg Hackett would seal the visitors place in the next round.

Before the game started, both sides paid their respects to Kevin Miller with a minute’s applause.

Exmouth would start on the front foot, with a chance just a minute in as Ethan Slater would pull a shot wide from inside the box.

James Callan would make his first save of the evening, as Owen Johnson’s cross would come out to Ross Edwards, and his fierce shot was well-saved by the goalkeeper.

Johnson would have a shot go over the bar, before his corner led to the opener, as both Wright and Mike Landricombe would go up for it, and the former would scramble the ball in.

The visitors would put together their first chance, striking the post with a close range effort.

Exmouth pushed for a second goal, as Aarron Denny flicked the ball over the defender, but Callan was on hand to deny him with an excellent save.

The following corner came into the box, and scrambled across the line, with Edwards diverting it towards goal, only to be cleared off the line.

Callan would once again prevent Town from a second, as a corner was headed back across by Landricombe, but Alex Cairo’s effort was stopped by the goalkeeper.

Not to be outdone, Chris Wright made a fingertip save to deny a long-range effort from Alexander.

Owen Johnson would then be in the right place at the right time, as the following corner was headed towards the Town goal.

Injuries to Ben Steer and Aarron Denny meant consecutive changes to the front-line, and it would go from bad to worse for the hosts in added time, as Brown was able to divert a rebounded shot into the empty net.

The visitors started stronger, and they would find themselves in front not long after the break, as Alexander’s strike squeezed past Wright.

It could have been three moments later, but Wright made a superb save to deny Hackett’s close range strike.

Callan would prove to be Exmouth’s kryptonite, as Ace High’s cross found Wright, and his shot rolled to Slater, but the goalkeeper would make another great save.

Wright would be on hand to stop the Red Kites making it three, as a quick free-kick caught Town out, but the goalkeeper made a strong stop from point-blank range.

Exmouth should have had an equaliser, as a free kick was punched by Callan into the path of Edwards, and his header was denied by two flying Thame defenders, before Cairo sent an acrobatic effort wide.

Town were struggling to create any more major chances, and the visitors would punish them, as Hackett kept the ball in play, before cutting in and firing past Wright.

That proved to be the hammer blow, with Town coming close via Landricombe and High, but they would come up short in the end.

Attention turns back to the Southern League Division One South on Saturday, as they travel to Dorchester.
